Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go for TriMet
WES DMU #1003 and trailer coach #2001 as they ease out of the WES layover
yard in Wilsonville, Ore. for the afternoon rush hour July 10, 2009.
The train is passing
the signal marking the beginning of Centralized Traffic Control and Automatic
Train Control on the Portland & Western, former BN (Oregon Electric)
line. South from here, the line to Salem and Eugene is governed by Track
Warrant Control.
The near track,
with the concrete ties, is the Wilsonville station lead; the middle track
is the P&W through track. WES trains operate from here to Tigard on
the former OE, where they cross over and operate on the former SP Tillamook
Branch to Beaverton.
At Lombard Street
in downtown Beaverton, the WES track swings away from the former SP right-of-way
and travels down Lombard to the Beaverton Transit Center. The P&W
operations center in Albany, Ore. controls the CTC and ATC for WES trains
and P&W freights that also use the line.
