| The Railfan
Guide to Metropolitan Portland will transport
you from Albina
Yard to the Washington Park & Zoo Railway,
from East Portland Traction to Westside
MAX and from the ex-Northern Pacific main toward
Seattle to the ex-Southern Pacific main toward
Eugene.
Each area you visit will include a description and historical summary, directions on how to get there, a sample of what kind of traffic to expect, and photographs of the activity. You are also encouraged to participate in this ongoing project. Please send any materials such as maps, photographs (in .jpg format) site descriptions and directions, to my E-mail address. NEW!!! There are several locations around the Portland metro area and throughout the Pacific Northwest where webcams allow you to catch rail and transit operations. Several, such as the cameras at the Olympia-Lacey, Wash. Amtrak station, are dedicated railcams. Others, such as the Oregon DOT and Washington DOT traffic cameras, catch rail or transit operations as part of the overall view. I've included links to the Olympia-Lacey railcams, as well as traffic webcams in Oregon and Washington. These allow views of passing Amtrak, BNSF, P&W, Sounder and UP trains, and MAX light rail. Thanks for your interest! Just click on the location to begin your visit or on the camera link to watch the action... |

Portland's streetcars each wear a unique paint scheme with two primary colors, each covering one side and one cab end. This makes the car look different when coming and going. Each car is also "sponsored" by a business or agency along the streetcar route, and wears the organization's name on each end. |
