| MCR 1850 |
| The #1850 was purchased new from the O.F. Jordan & Co. in 1952. In addition to the large plow blade on the front, the machine has air-operated wings that, when fully extended, can plow a 40-foot wide cut through snow. The wings can also be used for ditching work and spreading ballast. The #1850 worked side-by-side with the big wooden Russell plows until 1969; since then, it has been the “big gun” in the McCloud’s snowfighting arsenal, called into service whenever snow depths exceed the capabilities of the bucker/flangers. The spreader was the only plow available during the height of snow removal operations during the winter of 1992/1993 after the one serviceable bucker/flanger wrecked, and shortly after the arrival of spring the McCloud shop stenciled “A Wing and a Prayer” on the side of the machine’s cab. |
