Steam Locomotive #18:
10 October 2004

As 2004 drew to a close, the rumors about the future of the railroad started to swirl around, and the news was not good. What had been talked about in hushed tones for a year or more finally became official; the #18 was for sale, with an asking price of $350,000.

The Fall Foliage trips scheduled for October 10th and 17th were labelled as the last use of steam on the McCloud Railway at the time, although the Pacific Locomotive Association excursion in January 2005 later countered these claims. However, the excursions drew many people to McCloud over the two weekends, many who had always talked about riding the McCloud and many more who came to say a last goodbye.

These photos were taken during the trip of 10 October 2004.
