McCloud Rails: Shasta Sunset Dinner Train

Photo Essay by Peter and Karen Ely

On Friday, 17 October 2004, Peter and Karen Ely rode the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train. These pictures were taken by them during that trip.

The dinner train parked at the depot in downtown McCloud. The power for tonight's train has yet to arrive.

The power for tonight's train arrives in the form of the #36. The locomotive has brought two passenger coaches for a special excursion to be run the next day, and the first move is to place those cars on the outside track.

Once the coaches have been spotted and tied down, the #36 pulls away so that it can go to the other track and couple onto the dinner train.

Almost over the switch. Conductor Roger Titus rides the rear steps of the #36. Engineer on tonight's run is Malen Johnson.

Once Roger threw the switch, Malen eases the #36 back to the waiting dinner train.
