Good photo times: All day long. An interesting note is the
Appalachian trail crosses the Potomac River on a walkway built onto the CSX
Winchester branch bridge. Although a chain link fence separates the trains and
the people it is quite a feeling to be on a bridge with a train only feet away.

Note: Do not tresspass on railroad property. The high number
of tourists, especially on weekends, prompts not only the railroad but also the
park and town police to keep an eye open.
Note: Parking here can be a real test of patience. If you
do railfan here the motto is "come early". On the weekends from spring
through fall this usually means 8AM or earlier. The only public parking in
the town near the tracks is on the street next to the station. The small
commuter lot at the station is for commuters only and its enforced. |
