April, 2006. Digital photo taken from I-70. |
Donner
Pass in 1955. The snow shed is wood. Today they are all concrete. The railroad
is Southern Pacific. I shot the Kodachrome slide through a bus window. |
Nice
surprise! I shot this from an I-10 rest stop near San Simon, AZ. The UP
send a lot of intermodal trains through here on the old SP Sunset route.

It's
Canadian Pacific Royal Hudson 2839, but this is in Sylmar, CA at the Nethercutt
Museum, best known for its automobile collection. You must see the chrome
plated control handles at the backhead. April, 2006 |
CP
2839 never looked this good even when the type was pulling the royal train
in the 1930's. The staff at the Nethercutt restores autos to concours d'elegance
standards and saw no reason why a locomotive should get anything less. |
