Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Incorporated MASTER STEAM LOCOMOTIVE MECHANIC To support the Pichi Richi Railway's train operations,the Master Steam Locomotive Mechanic is required to provide timely maintenance to ensure equipment required to operate trains is available in safe and reliable conditions, Work will predomirianlly relate to steam locomotive and rollingstock running gear. Occasional other work may be required to assist other departments to support the train operations,The position requires considerable interaction with the Railway's volunteer workforce. ' Required Outcomes. 1. Have locomotives, rollingstock and track inspection vehicles available when required for agreed operational requirements in a reliable and safe condition. 2. Overcome the accumulated backlog of deferred maintenance. 3. Enhance the job satisfaction and skill level of volunteers in the workshops in Skills and Knowledge 4. Maintenance and operation of locomotives (steam and diesel) and plain bearing rollingstock. =, 5. Knowledge of Westinghouse braking systems. 6. Current OHS & W Act & Regulations. Qualifications 7. Relevant training and experience to at least a trade level in an appropriate mechanical engineering field. 8. Licence to operate mobile crane or similar equipment desirable. 9. Australian Certificate of Competency for boilers or Reciprocating Steam Engine (or equivalent) desirable. Special Conditions Initially a contract position of 18 months duration based at Quorn, in the Flinders Ranges. Because of the need to work and liaise with the volunteer workforce, flexibility of working hours will be necessary including some weekend and out of hours work.
