GARDEN STATE DIVISION,
Northeastern Region, NMRA
A New Jersey Non-Profit Tax Exempt Organization

Spring in Union, 2008

Due to the fact that members were kind enough to take and submit photos, we have lots of them.
The meet went well with a white elephant table, show & tell, a fine lunch, Model Judging and two fine clinics all followed by a great operating session on the clubs layout.
Due the amount of photo as submitted, I have created a photo page.

Youth day at Lake Mohawk

Completely the idea of GSD Director Anthony Piccirillo, his "Youth Day was a shining success with the parents, the members and especially the kids.

Everyone had a really great time
Here, Anthony, a GSD director and creator of this wonderful idea gives direction on local switching. The kids are having a ball.
Above, GSD Director Ed Fraedrich gives his 'expert' advise on layout design colors. Above, GSD Secretary, Ciro Campagno shows his daughter the fine art of detail work

Above, GSD event director, Bob Tumielewicz uses his fingers rather then a brush on the scenery. The kids got the idea, no matter what we tried to tell them.
15 kids under 8 years old and 4 over 8 years old participated in building 13" x 9"
foam dioramas. Parents started building some dioramas as well.
Some of the final results

HO, G and 027 layouts were available. For some children it was the first
time they ran a train. John Allen's Timesaver was also a great challenge for parents and children
alike. (It needs more work!) A very long time friend of Anthony, Rich Kump was invaluable to keep the trains running.
Our thanks to Kenvil Hobbies and the NMRA for the materials used and to lake committee, the GSD folks, all the helpers, the parents and the kids for without them this event could have not taken place.
This event will take place again next year, bring your child, borrow a child if you have to, but come.
