NORM 2013 Events & Schedules

This is a listing of Museum Members events for the year 2013 (see the Museum's newsletter, The Northern Light,for more details).

Museum Schedule of Events

Public Walking Tours. Saturdays, mid-May through the end of October, 10 AM to 4 PM. Open to all visitors. Member volunteers are needed to help guide visitors through the Musuem.

Scheduled Work Sessions. Every Saturday from 10am to 5pm. For other days, contact Ralph Pfingsten or Walt Stoner at 330-769-5501. Volunteers of all ages, genders, and skills are needed.

Media Nights. 1st Friday of the month (except in July and August). Doors open by 7:45 PM, activities begin at 8 PM. Media nights are open to the public.

Media Nights are held at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 7171 Pearl Road in Middleburg Hts. The church is located on Pearl Road two blocks north of Bagley. Please drive to the building at the rear of the property and enter that building. Doors open at 7:45 PM.

Directors Business Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month at the Seville United Methodist Church. Meetings start at 7:30 pm. Summer meetings are held at the Museum. Meetings are open to all members.

  • January 4th, 2013 - Friday. Media Night. There will be the holiday foods and displays that would normally be at the December media night to make up for the cancellation of the past two monthly media nights. Bill Belson will show his original movies of streetcars in Cleveland from the early 1950s. This program is not to be missed.
  • January 29th - Directors Business Meeting at the Seville United Methodist Church.


  • February 1st - Friday. Media Night.
  • February 3rd - Sunday. N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Bookstore at the Medina Model Railroad & Train Show, Medina County Fair Grounds, Medina, Ohio, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • February 26th - Directors Business Meeting at the Seville United Methodist Church.


  • March 1st - Friday. Media Night. Ralph Pfingsten will have a PowerPoint show of William Vigrass' post-WWII photos of Cleveland streetcars. Audience help will be needed to identify the locations of many of the photos. By popular demand, Ralph will also show his animation of the roller coaster at the Puratis Springs Amusement Park.
  • March 16th and 17th - Saturday and Sunday, N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Museum Store at the Railfest Div 5 Train Show, Lakeland Community College, I-90 and S.R. 306, Exit 193, Kirtland, Ohio. 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM both days.
  • March 24th - Sunday. N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Bookstore at the Greater Wayne County Train & Toy Show at the Buckeye Event Center, 624 Henry Street, Dalton, Ohio, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • March 26th - Directors Business Meeting at the Seville United Methodist Church.


  • April 5th - Friday. Media Night. Steve Heister will present a PowerPoint show on his trip to the ARM convention in Montreal last November. Ralph Phingsten will have a PowerPoint show of photos for the audience to identify.
  • April 7th - Sunday. N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Bookstore at the Medina Model Railroad & Train Show, Medina County Fair Grounds, Medina, Ohio, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • April 20th - Saturday, N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Bookstore at the 49th Buckeye Model Trains & Railroad Artifacts Show & Sale at the Lausche Building, Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, Ohio, 9 AM to 4 PM.
  • April 23rd - Directors Business Meeting at the Seville United Methodist Church.


  • May 10th - Friday. Media Night. PLEASE NOTE: this date is one week later than usual. Ralph Pfingsten will present part 2 of "help us identify these historic achieve photos." Attendees will help determine the location and subject of donated traction photos.
  • May 11th - Saturday. Orientation session for the Museum Walking Tour Guides and Museum Store Personnel, 10 AM.
  • May 14th - PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.
  • May 18th - October 26th - Saturdays. Walking tours begin at N.O.R.M., each Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM.


  • June 7th - Friday, Media Night.
  • June 25th - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • July 5th - Friday, N.O.R.M. members outing to the Northeast Ohio Live Steamers. Rides from 7PM to 9PM.
  • July 6th - Saturday, N.O.R.M. Historical Displays at the Veterans Memorial Bridge and Subway tour (Detroit-Superior High Level Bridge) in Cleveland, 9 AM to 3 PM.
  • July 13th - Saturday, N.O.R.M. Annual Meeting at the Colony Dining Room at Baldwin Wallace University, Student Union-Strosacker Hall, Berea, Ohio. Dinner at 6:00PM with the business meeting to follow the dinner. A flyer/registration will be sent to members. For the program Blaine Hays will present a pictoral history of N.O.R.M. using Jim Smith's slides from the very early days through 2010. This should prove to be a wonderful program.
  • July 23rd - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • August 12th - Sunday. Members Day Open House. There will be rides, open barns, and a picnic lunch. Details TBA in the newsletter.
  • August 27th - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • September 6th - Friday. Media Night.
  • September 24th - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • October 4th - Friday. Media Night.
  • October 27th - Sunday. N.O.R.M. Historical Displays and Bookstore at the Medina Model Railroad & Train Show, Medina County Fair Grounds, Medina, Ohio, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • October 22nd - Directors Business Meeting.


  • November 1st - Friday. Media Night./li>
  • November 26th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • December 6th - Friday. Media Night.
  • December 10th - Directors' Annual Business Meeting.
