NW TRACTION HISTORY:
Portland
's Trolley Past Today

Welcome to our new feature on Northwest Traction History. The photographs in this section feature modern scenes where Portland's Trolley past is showing itself today. Please enjoy.

A road project on SE McLoughlin in Milwaukie, OR has uncovered a bit of trolley past. This view is looking south. Note the Trolley replacement in the distance. (12/05 J. Nagy) This is the same project looking north. This trackage is from the Interurban line that ran from Portland to Oregon City. (12/05 J. Nagy)
The line at one time went right through downtown Milwaukie. Later the line was moved closer the to Willamette River. (12/05 J. Nagy) The Proposed MAX Light Rail line to Milwaukie will be in this same general area. What is old becomes new again... (12/05 J. Nagy)
In 2002 a project to re-surface the Burnside bridge revealed narrow gauge trolley tracks. This view is looking west. At one time there was a station on the middle of this bridge approach. (7/02, M. Kavanagh) Same Bridge project, this view looking east at where the approach ends and the rails disappear under the pavement. (7/02 M. Kavanagh)
A paving project on NE 4th Ave in Old Town review rails. (9/03 M. Kavanagh) This is the old Sellwood carbarn in 2003. The carbarn has since been torn down, but the wall still exists. (8/03 M. Kavanagh)
Another view of the carbarn, this section is now gone. (8/03 M. Kavanagh) The former Oregon City Interurban line is on the right. (8/03 M. Kavanagh)
Old substation across from the Sellwood carbarn, it reads OWP&RWY CO, Substation, 1905. (8/03 M. Kavanagh) This is the old Car-Men Clubhouse across from the carbarn. It has been restored and converted into offices. (8/03 M. Kavanagh)
