Traction "Broadway Car"
Brill Master Unit #813 |
Built
in 1932 by J. G. Brill
As
built # 813 was used on the city streetcar lines
(3'6") and is known as a Broadway car, the namesake
route it was used on. It was one of 15 Brill Master Units
bought by PTC. It was a very modern car at its time. When
PTC stopped streetcar service in 49-50, this car was
transferred to the Interurban line between Portland and
Oregon City. It had to be re-gauged to the Interurbans standard gauge. Entirely new trucks were used in the conversion. The car
then received the new number of 4012.
The OERHS
completed a full restoration of this car in 1998. The car was painted in
it's City colors and we re-numbered to it original city# of 813.

Car
# 4012, what was car 813. The photo is dated 1950 so it is probably soon
after being re-gauged. The standard gauge trucks came from car 4000
(according to the photo notes) and are Brill 177-E-1x.
