Crab Orchard and Egyptian

Founded August 1972. Operating on Illinois Central 8 mile branch. Passenger excursion trains began in 1973 with two IC coaches. Became a common carrier when IC decided to abandon the branch. First freight train ran October 18, 1977.
Increased freight cut back excursion to Sunday only and it ended in 1979. December 2012 sold to Progressive Rail.

Roberval & Sagueney 17 acquired 1975. In service July 1979.

Piggyback! 100 flat cars leased December 1978 and later, 100 more bought. 500 trailers.

 

17 survived dieselization and later operated hauling freight and tourist trains on the Crab Orchard & Egyptian
in the US for a few years before again being retired. During which time it lost its stoker, vestibule cab,
feedwater heater, and superheating. It is on display in Boone, Iowa, September 6, 2004.
