Demolishing houses and other structures was a simplier, quicker and cheaper method once work got away from the downtown area with its many buildings, some of them skyscrapers, close together along Yonge Street. Moving the line away from being directly under Yonge Street just north of Carlton Street accomplished this. May 23, 1950
