Yonge Street just north of Queen September 28, 1949. This scene and many more like it became commonplace to Toronto citizens for many months. Can you imagine this happening to-day? The vast number of onlookers soon became know as "sidewalk superintendents"! Makes you wonder if anybody was at work! This was a Wednesday and many stores closed back then. Many offices worked a half day on Saturday until 1.00 P.M.before the five day work week became standard. On Sunday virtually everything was closed!
