CPR Number 601 engine 3100 from Peterboro is the first train to enter the new Union Station at high platform level.
Note the other photographer with his tripod setup. January 21, 1930. City of Toronto Archives fonds 1244 item 0709

Note: Normally the two K-1 class 4-8-4's were assigned to trains #21 and 22 between Montreal and Toronto. For this special occasion the CPR obviously wanted its biggest and newest passenger locomotive to bring in the first train. Whether or not it actually hauled the train all the way from Peterboro is unknown, it may in fact have been substituted right in Toronto! There sure isn't much snow on the front of the engine if it really did come from Peterboro.
