Montreal Tramways Company

The Montreal City Passenger Company, a horse car operation dating from 1861 was reorganized in 1886 as the Montreal Street Railway. It was electrified in 1892. The Montreal Island Belt Railway Company started in 1896 becoming in 1900 Montreal Terminal Railway Company. In 1901 the Montreal Park & Island Railway was acquired by Montreal Street Ry.
and in 1904 the Suburban Tramway & Power Co. was leased. In 1907 Montreal Terminal Ry. was bought and
amalgamation came in 1911 when Montreal Tramways Company was created.
It grew to 124 miles and continued operating until 1959.
