Ontario Hydro

5388-5397 (8) were owned by Ontario Hydro and originally operated by CP Rail to haul unit trains of coal to Thunder Bay thence via ship to electric generating plants. They were not painted for Ontario Hydro and operated on any CP Rail freight trains. Hydro's ownership of these units simply guaranteed that there would always be units available to move their coal.

The freight contract for most of these unit trains changed to CN and 6 units were transferred in May 1996.
