Designed strictly for passenger service these units had no traction motors on the middle axles.
CPR bought these units to pool with Boston and Maine for Montreal-Boston service.
Later, they worked on other routes, one was destroyed in a wreck, two were upgraded and eventually sold to VIA Rail.
