Second of 51 high-horsepower Century road freight units, most lasted for 35 years. C-424 2400HP MLW #84839 3/65
Built with headlights above the cab windshield, these units were later modified as shown to avoid glare. These units were built using components from 51 traded-in Alco and MLW A and B units, mostly FA-1 and a few FA-2.
How much other than trucks and traction motors was actually used is uncertain, likely little; mostly it was a sales program. These were originally intended to be numbered in the 8300 series, in fact, the first one actually was. It was soon renumbered.
