The NAD Century Flyer
Historical Data:
Spotting Features:
NAD Century Flyer trains usually feature a rather amateurish-looking
4-4-0 steam-outline gasoline engine. The boiler is grotesquely oversized
for the tiny, underscale cab. The train usually carries a tender on which
the operator sits. Coaches usually supplied with the Century Flyer resemble
roller coaster trains more than a conventional train. Open gondolas were
also sometimes supplied.
NAD trains were not built to any one standard design, and therefore
vary considerably in appearance. One former operator of an NAD remarked that
they looked as if they were built using whatever was lying around in the
shop at the time. They were built in a variety of guages, with 15" and 24"
being the most common.
