THIS WEBSITE IS IN MEMORY OF JOHN LABODA, 1918 - 1969.

He was my father, my hero and my friend, and I owe my interest in railroads to him because of the "quality
time" we spent together, often watching trains.  And, because of his work as a security guard and fireman
at Edwards AFB and for North American Aviation/North American Rockwell, he was also a hero to
a number of other people as well.

Thank you Daddy... for everything!!!

Welcome to the Passenger Car Photo Index, the best resource for finding passenger car photos for North American railroads on the web!!!

Presented to you herein is the most extensive coverage I have ever had opportunity to provide in regards to passenger cars covering well over a century of passenger car history.  And with this edition of the Index a large number of historical photographs have been added in for the first time.  Within you will find major additions under many of the roads that are covered, in part due to new archives being found and the willingness of many people to share what they have photographed.  It is not simply something of my own creation.  It is because of many people who not only took the time to photograph and document passenger train equipment that this website is able to exist.  I am deeply indebted to the many photographers and webmasters represented herein who have chosen to share their photos on the internet!!!  It is to them I do owe a deep debt of gratitude.

Because of my own interests in passenger trains and their equipment I began compiling this Index one section at a time, initially covering only certain types of passenger equipment that I have found to be of interest with more being added as time went along.  Since its beginning in January 2003, this has grown to a massive listing covering passenger train equipment from all over North America, providing railfans and modelers accurate documentation of what cars looked like and how many were painted and lettered.  And it is a labor of love (at times more labor than love, honestly) because all of the searching is done by me, as I have time and a way to do it.  (In order that I might get this Update posted I have some work left undone at present, such as the mix of old and new graphics, but the Roadname Index is now working.  Work continues to progress... be patient, things will belooking better soon.)

As has been the case with every earlier Update broken links will occur.  Sometimes it is simply an error on my part that can be quickly fixed, unfortunately this is something that can never be avoided since so much changes for the many who do have websites.  A number of folks have helped to keep me straight on my errors as well as letting me know about broken links, far to many to name, but I do appreciate any help on this!!!  I cannot promise you that all links will remain working since I have no control over this.  I will say, though, that if a link isn't working I will see about it (and if possible, report it to the owner of the site) and if necessary, remove it from future updates.  To email me just CLICK HERE.

Would you be willing to become a part of the work on the Index?  I am searching for information on a variety of cars that are shown in the listings.  I am also looking for someone who would be willing to work with me on the website, especially so since health issues may soon be affecting the site.  Also, if you have information that could help to identify a car needing its "History???" please email me by using any of the email links spread through out this site.

I would also be remiss if I did not mention my partners who help me to provide this valuable website, without whom none of this would be possible...

I am deeply indebted to and proud to have as the host of this website Trainweb.org.  Host to a large number of really great websites, and that typically at little to no cost to webmasters,  I can honestly say that it is a priviledge that I am thankful for in having the Index hosted by them.  If you are looking for a host for a railroad related website and want to learn more about this valuable service click the logo to the left for information... and join in the fun!!!  This site ranks #3 of the Top Ten TW websites and is also listed in the Best of Trainweb list.

If you are looking for great railroad photographs or are looking for a place to host the same I highly recommend the RR Picture Archives.  A leading site for rail photos of all kinds, I am really pleased to have my shots hosted on this site and I recommend that you do the same.  Just click the icon to the left to visit the site.

In these changing times there has been lot that has affected railfans' ability to document on film and in written records the continuing chronicles of today's railroads. Since the tragedy of the 9/11 the rights of individuals to take photographs in public places have come under attack, and this has become especially true of those who take pictures of trains.  Attorney Bert P. Krages II has compiled  information on what should and shouldn't be done when taking photographs in public... to visit his site just click the icon to the left.

Looking to learn more about passenger cars?  The Passenger Car List at Yahoo! Groups is the best place to find information on all North American passenger equipment.  Founded by Tom Madden, whose website, The Pullman Project, contains extensive information and historical documentation on Pullman cars and their history, this list is the place to find information on all aspects of passenger train equipment. To visit the List just click the drawing below...

Interested in dome cars?  The DOME.main site is the most inclusive site of any on the web involving the creation and use of these cars.  Because of the extensive collection of images on this site I have not made an effort to catalog it but if you would like to visit just click on the dome car drawing below...

Originally built for the Burlington as CB&Q 360 Silver View, Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley 505 went on to become Amtrak 9300
before being sold to Delaware Otsega.  Later the car was tranferred to the New York Susquehanna & Western as their 505.

Also I highly recommend to anyone who want to learn more about the cars and locomotives that Amtrak has used since its inception to visit Jim Hebner's Amtrak Photo Archives.  His site features an extensive collection of photographs covering of most Amtrak locomotives as well as a large collection of photos of various passenger cars, express cars, Roadrailers, and even a couple of "Amtrak" buses, making it the best place on the web to view Amtrak rolling stock.  Just click the Amtrak car below to go to his site...

AMTK 8202, ex-C&O 1922 Allegheny Club, was one of three 5 bedroom - lounge observation cars rebuilt by the C&O into
dorm - dinette cars.  The remaining former bedrooms reverted to their prior use under Amtrak, being sold as revenue space.

Gone but not forgotten...  Colorado Railcar (and Rader Railcar before it) during its existance created some of the most interesting and unique passenger cars for both the tourist industry as well as for transit authorities.  Jody Moore's Ultradomeswebsite covers the variety of cars created by the company.  To visit his site just click on the drawing below.

I would like to also take this time to mention two more sites that are very close to my heart...

The percentage of children being born with the mental disorder known as Autism is growing at a rate of 10% - 14% every year.  With a growth rate like this it could soon even affect you or someone you know.  If you would like to find out more about this condition or would like to find out how you might help, please visit the Autism Speaks website by clicking on their emblem to the left.  Children who have autism grown up to be adults who have autism, facing many challenges, so any help would be greatly appreciated as they work towards answers to help those who are born with this condition.  I am one of many who works as direct care staff for Autistic adults.

Back in June, 1858, in speaking of the separation of free states and slave, the great Abraham Lincoln said:  "A house divided against itself cannot stand."  Have you ever considered how true these words are?  America has been called the greatest nation on this planet and yet, in many ways, we are a divided house and we have, in many ways, suffered the consequences for it.  By culture, by race and national origin, and by religion and by politics, just as the America was back then, so is it now. We are a "divided house."

As a part of the background, the Eagle shown above and the words:  "United... we stand." have been a part of this website for some time now, first on a few pages where graphics had been updated and added to, and now, on every single page.  Yet sadly, we are a divided nation.  And both history and scripture clearly shows that nation divided nation against itself will be destined to fall if it can't work towards coming together... despite the differences.

I have felt strongly about this for many years and have watched how our nation has become.  No greater has division sought to tear this nation down than it does right now.  Yes, we live in difficult times and many trials are faced by so many here in America every single day, signs of the division that exists in our land.  Except we begin to change our attitudes, except we begin to change our way of thinking, we will pull ourselves apart with little besides rubble to show for what once was a great nation, just as many others who had gone on before us.

In Matthew 12:25, we are told that Jesus said:  "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand."  Whether you believe scripture or not even history testifies that this is True.  History shows evidence of a number of great civilizations that once existed that are little more than footnotes now, despite the many things that they had accomplished and could have contributed to the benefit of all, largely because they destroyed themselves.  Please consider what you might be doing for and against uniting this country... before its too late!!!  Is it ever too late to work for change?  Yes!!!  Once change is no longer possible.
