This is a photo of the repair tracks at CSX's Wyoming Yard from the late 1980's. Besides being a sizable classification yard for traffic to and from Chicago, Wyoming Yard also boasts a large car repair shop that handles a significant amount of jobs for CSX. The photo above is looking south and shows a one of several repair tracks with a line of Chessie System boxcars waiting their turn for the shops. In the foreground is the scrap track where cars that are too damaged to be repaired are torched to the ground, sometimes with loads still in them, to be sent off for scrap.
