Railfan Pictures of the Day - 03/19/2005

CSX Lansdale Yard Lansdale PA March 13 2005

CSX B745 had a low speed derailment on Friday night. As the train was traversing the Doylestown Freight Track, either the east rail rolled or the west rail broke, putting two box cars and one wheel of trailing engine CSX 4448 on the ground. CSX, SEPTA and Terra came up Sunday morning to rectify the situation. Part One is here, Part Two here.

After pulling the UP car clear, they turned their attention to the AOK car.

The sidewinder lifted the car from the parking lot as 8868 approached.
Gingerly, they brought 8868 closer, careful not to roll the rail under the engine.
After a successful coupling, the sidewinder was moved to the rear of the car in order to push and lift. You can see the orange pole grounding the de-energized wire.
Since the cars were loaded, the sidewinder had its work cut out for it as it crawled along with the engine to move the car over the damage section of rail.
Almost home, the car inches forward over wood blocks and what is left of the rail.
