NS Morrisville Connector Norristown PA May 21 2005

NS 14G, having just crossed over from the Harrisburg Line at CP Norris, has pulled onto the Connecting Track heading east toward CP King and the Morrisville Line. From the brand new ties dropped between the tracks, it appears SEPTA will be doing some tie replacement on the R6 Norristown Line near Ford Street, just south of the Norristown Transportation Center. The train is led by one of the rare* D9-40CW locomotives, NS 9233.
Trailing was SD60 NS 6597 as the train was crossing Ford Street and getting ready to pull up hill to CP King.
Built by Conrail in 1993, G52U CR 631298 was one of 203 from the second set of these cars, and the first group of this car design to emerge from the Hollidaysburg Car Shop in Hollidaysburg PA. HCS also built the third set of 265 in 1995, classified G52V.
CR 631150 has been NYC'ed by CSXT, but this G52T still says Conrail to me. The original unclassified (G52S?) run of 139 cars were built by Thrall in 1992, who also built part of the second run, 100 cars in 1993 classified G52T. Notice the reinforced cover with the extra end braces missing from the hood above and the bolder "Q" on the Quality logo on the car below.
A grizzled veteran, NYC 678599, Conrail Class G52B, barely has any logos left on it.
Conrail G43B CR 601810 is one of the many marked by the "COIL STEEL LOADING ONLY" on the top sill. Despite a mixture of side panels, it still wears its PC heritage number, found on the rightmost panel, above the class and below the lease trust details.
Conrail CR 600465 is from lot 148G acquired by NYC just before the Penn Central merge.
* rare was meant facetiously as NS has about a million of these.
