Railfan Pictures of the Day - 08/31/2005

CSX Trenton Line and Bethlehem Branch Langhorne and Lansdale PA August 2005

A rather ordinary Q418 on August 17 2005 heads north through Woodbourne Station with an unusual power combination: CSX GP40-2 6033 leading a quartet of engines.
In the middle is a mother and slug set, CSX GP40-2 6457 and RDMT 2230 (a former GP35), with CSX SD40-2 8383 trailing. They are heading up north, which usually means goodbye to any local power for a while.....
... but wait. Just a week later, Q417 drops off a pair of engines at Woodbourne yard before heading south to Pavonia, and the next morning Q300 rolls out of the yard with CSX SD40-2 8404 in the CSX early Bright Future paint scheme, an HATX ex-Burlington Northern leaser, CSX SD40-2 8464 and the pair of engines that it just picked up at Woodbourne .....
... the mother and slug (actually now slug and mother, as the power has been turned sometime in the previous week) from the Q418, CSX 2230 and 6457. Meanwhile, one week after that ....
the former Q418 leader, CSX 6033, is now leading a much smaller train with CSX GP38-2 2578 and a couple of cars as CSX B738 local heads from Lansdale to Hatfield.
