Railfan Pictures of the Day - 10/24/2006

CSX Trenton and SEPTA Neshaminy Lines Langhorne and Trevose PA October 18 2006

Subtitled: A Black Day on the Trenton Line

CSX Q417 rolls toward CP Wood with NS D 9-40CW 9136 leading a CEFX unit. While it is unusual for an NS unit to run on a CSX train, the destination, Conrail SAA Pavonia Yard in Camden, is known for its frequent mix of CSX and NS power, and is the end point for a pair of CSX and NS trains, CSX Q417/Q418 and NS 38G/39G.

After dropping off the cut of cars on Track 4 to the right, the power pulled past CP Fairless Junction and, after clearing it with NI dispatcher, reverses back against their train.
A slightly shorter Q417 continues west through Langhorne heading for Philadelphia, the Delair Bridge and then home.
Meanwhile, on Track 1 south of Woodbourne Station, just across from Woodbourne Yard where Q417 was working, West Chester Railroad RS18u 1803 is back on SEPTA's wire train. During slippery rail season, SEPTA's five diesels are otherwise occupied fighting the dreaded deciduous foliage (all the nasty green stuff lurking behind the train) that comes between the steel wheels and the steel rails, so WCRR leases out 1803.
Their work done for the day, the wire train crew gives a friendly wave as the train rolls through Trevose on their way back to SEPTA's main facility on the Reading side of the system, the complex at Wayne Junction which includes Roberts MU Yard, Liberty MOW Yard and Wayne Electric Shop.
