SEPTA Lansdale Station and CSX Bethlehem Branch Lansdale PA November 13 2007

A day in the life around Lansdale PA

The morning starts with SEPTA Extra 60 and its ballast cars arriving in the rain.
Then the ballast train heads right back out with a slew of track equipment on its heels.
Around noon, CSX B738 prepares to depart Lansdale and head up the branch to work, with CSX GP40-2 4402 on the nose, a trio of covered hoppers for Jet Plastica, then CSX GP40-2 6280 and some box cars for Hatfield Warehouse ...
and a big orange tail of trash cars heading for storage north of Telford on the ESPN (the former EPRY) Quakertown Branch.
Later in the afternoon, the sky clears and the sun lights up the cars of Train 524, which parks in the yard every morning and then is cut into two to make a pair of Lansdale turning trains for the evening rush. The usual Lansdale originating locals have been banished from the midday schedule because of the single tracking that is necessary during ongoing track work, a job which should be wrapping up this month. This morning, Train 524 came in with a "one of everything" consist: ex-Reading Silverliner II 9001, an ex-Pennsylvania Silverliner II, an ex-Pennsylvania Silverliner III and a Silverliner IV married pair. Behind them in the distance are a couple pieces of MOW equipment CSX brought up for work on the Bethlehem Branch. That work ended months ago, but they seemed to have forgotten where they left them.
While the weather was good, SEPTA decided to do some beautification around the Lansdale Station, and the tool of choice was the vacuum truck, aka "The Super Sucker".
