SEPTA Route 23 Mount Airy Philadelphia PA April 13 2008

The Ice Cream Trolley misses its brothers. Hopefully, the construction on Germantown Avenue is a step toward a return of trolleys to Chestnut Hill (someday).
As a temporary solution to deteriorating road conditions, last year PennDOT paved over Germantown Avenue between Cresheim Valley Drive and Gowen Avenue.
For the past month, the section from the Trolley Car Diner to Cresheim Valley Drive has been closed so that the roadway could be redone and the trolley tracks restored.
A view looking north under the former Pennsylvania Railroad Whitemarch Branch bridge.
Welcome to Chestnut Hill. The Mermaid Lane loop has seen better days, but at least the tracks, wires and poles are still there.
Looking south from the loop at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Cresheim Valley Drive. The construction was supposed to be completed this week, but the reopening is now delayed a week or two.
The last time work like this was done was down near Wayne Junction back in the 1990's.
