Railfan Pictures of the Day - 6/23/2010

SEPTA Main Line and Doylestown Branch Lansdale PA June 15, 16 and 17 2010

As a follow up to last week's Silverliner III page, here are some shots of the Silverliner II's still plying their trade now for their third (RDG/CR/SEPTA) or fourth operator (PRR/PC/CR/SEPTA). First up ex-Pennsylvania Class MP85 201 arriving at Lansdale Station with an extra passenger on the hind end. This was evidently his stop as he was not there when the train departed.
The Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys are sponsoring a Farewell to the Budd Silverliner II charter fan trip on October 24 2010, and ex-Pennsylvania MP85 269 is high on the list of requested cars for the excursion. The last PRR Silverliner II delivered, 269 has worn the "PENNSYLVANIA" in Futura lettering across its letterboard since 1996.
To be fair, they should probably include a former Reading Company Class REB-13 like 9012 as well. Both the Pennsylvania and Reading cars were purchased for the railroads in 1963 by the City of Philadelphia through the Passenger Service Improvement Corporation.
A pure Silverliner II consist departs Lansdale with MP85 252 leading ...
and MP85 254 trailing.
