Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/30/2005

SEPTA Norristown Line Conshohocken PA October 23 2005

SEPTA and local emergency services scheduled an emergency evacuation drill for Saturday, but due to weather it was rescheduled for Sunday. It simulated a derailment with wires down, a fire, multiple severe or fatal injuries and, to top it off, a hazardous material spill.
The crew of SEPTA 60 were "victims" and had to be extricated from the engine.
The hazardous waste was represented by plastic drums on flat car SPAX 2101.
Properly geared emergency personnel investigated the hazmat situation. Special considerations were given to wind direction and appropriate decontamination procedures.
SEPTA Silverliner III 235 and IV 300 represented the passenger component of the drill.
The condition of the "victims" were assessed on board before they were removed from the train.
