Conrail Lansdale Yard Lansdale PA July 1995

Back in 1995, a fixture of Lansdale industry, American Olean Tile (aka "The Tile") was still in business. Whenever their ship came into the Port of Philadelphia loaded with the clay used to make the tile, Conrail would rustle up a number of their coal hoppers to transport the raw material up to the works.

Conrail coal hopper CR 473446 is a former PRR H43 class hopper with its heritage indentification mostly obscured by rust (last three numbers are 560, but have been informed that it was PRR 181560). This is why you should shoot both sides of a car, even in the shadows.

A number of Reading hoppers were still floating around, like this HTg class car RDG 484207.
Conrail coal hopper CR 485071 class HR1A started out life on the Reading as RDG 41464 class HTd. Unusual angled placement of the heritage identification.
A nice clean paint job on Conrail coal hopper CR 488898 class H1B.
