Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/12/2008

Durange & Silverton Railroad Durango CO June 23 2008

The first train at 7:30 AM was just a little too early, but caught the second departing train of the day out of Durango at 8:15 AM with D&S 486 (K-36 Class built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia PA in 1928) pulling as it crosses East 15th Street about to head over, then along, the Animas River toward Silverton.
Meanwhile, back at the depot, warming up in the bullpen was D&S 473 (K28 Class built by American Locomotive Works in 1923).
The third train of the day at 9:00 AM was powered by D&S 480 (K-36 Class built by BLW in 1928) as it pulls out of the station and across West 9th Street at Narrow Guage Avenue while my youngest gets a closeup shot.
Finally it was 473's turn.
The conductor directs the engine back against the train.
Shortly after, the last departure of the day was at 9:45 AM. It would be very quiet in town for most of the day as the first train back would not arrive until 4:45 PM, the last at 7:00 PM.
