Railfan Pictures of the Week - 03/13/2011

SEPTA Doylestown and Main Lines New Britain and Lansdale PA March 8 and 11 2011

SEPTA's pantograph problems continued last week. After Train 216 had all five pans mangled on the Norristown Line the week before, Train 503 out of Doylestown developed a problem at Forest Siding and SEPTA genset 70 was dispatched to the scene, pictured here at Link Belt.
The problem child this time was Silverliner IV 291. Fortunately the crew on 503 reacted quickly and stopped the train, resulting in minimal damage to the wires.
The pantograph was not as lucky and the upper arm had to be excised from the car before it could be moved.
SEPTA 70 was then coupled up and, after the required brake test, ...
they were heading back, here passing the new siding at Link Belt.
and the former Reading Freight House in Lansdale.
Three days later, 291 was back in business, here sitting next to CSX B738's leader GP40-2 4408 at Lansdale Station.
