Railfan Pictures of the Week - 01/20/2013

SEPTA Norristown Line and NS Connecting Track Norristown PA December 14 2012

One of the several "as-needed" trains running through the area is NS 66Z, here with the power and first few cars on NS and the rest of the train still on SEPTA. The empty gondola train is bound for Morrisville, where it will pick up imported steel slabs to be taken west as 67Z.
The former LMS unit 719 is now NS 8459 in horse head scheme, leading an NS catfish.
Among the many cars on this train were survivors from Conrail like Class G52M CR 588005 ...
and its similar sister Class G52Q CR 587402 (obvious difference: one extra side panel).
While many of the older cars remain marked with their Conrail class, a number have been stenciled by their current owners with their new NS class, like CR 582072 and its new Class GP-46 in tiny letters on the rightmost side panel.
Others like Class G52C CR 582282 attracted the notice of unauthorized persons unknown.
Still others like CR 584822 were never physically identified by their Conrail class and continue to go unnoticed by their new owner.
