Railfan Pictures of the Week - 03/24/2013

Conrail Morrisville Yard Morrisville PA April and May 1999

Thinking about the drab gray of winter? Then how about some gray ladies from the turn of the century. The Conrail split is a couple months away, and already things are looking different. Anticipating a surge in demand, NS was taking delivery of catfish before they could even get their whiskers, like NS C40-9W 9277 with "speed" lettering (as in "get it done as fast as possible, it don't matter what it looks like!")
NS 9281 is another C40-9W that came undecorated.
Of course Conrail had its stealth units too. The gray Ballast Express paint scheme only appeared on the orphan C32-8's, but it looked pretty good and an interesting change, even after they got their NS patches, like NS (PRR) 8547, the former CR 6616.
Black and white and gray all over.
