The Dual Voltage Class 92s

The Class 92 locomotive fleet were built by Brush Works at Loughboroug, specifically for operating in England, France and Belgium on the Channel Tunnel freight services and NightStar sleeper services from the UK to Mainline Europe and vice-versa.

A total of 46 locomotives were built with ownership shared amongst the three railway companies, British Rail (now EWS International), SNCF and SNCB. With the withdrawal of the NightStar service even before the first train ran, several locomotives are surplus to requirements and are now stored at Crewe.

The EWS owned members of the class, now usually to be found hauling the European freight traffic from France to London as well as on the European feeder services from locations on the West Coast Main Line. Occasionally some locomotives will appear on non-european freight duties, as highlighted by these two photographs taken by Fred Kerr.
