Operations Introduction

Amtrak prototype
Not only can we strive to have our model railroad look like the real thing or prototype, we can also add some realism to how we operate our model railroad. The prototype's mission was to move train cars, and hence freight and passengers, from one location to another specific location. Operations is at its core nothing more than modeling that mission.

Amtrak model
Some of the group have both formally and informally attempted operations. Many of us have noted that these attempts are "fun" as well as challenging. Using the radios with a dispatcher, attempting to model prototype speeds and techniques, experimenting with switchlists, delivering cars to be switched by the switch crew at Timber Ridge are all attempts to operate more prototypically and have more fun than just watching the trains go around and round.
