QC Area Detours

Late May - Early July 2002

Due to a failure on the swingspan of the Government Bridge, Iowa Interstate's bridge across the Mississippi River, the IAIS was forced to detour via BNSF's Crescent Bridge and IMRL's West Davenport Yard. Here are several views of trains throughout the detour process:

The Iowa Interstate's Big Bureau Creek bridge, near Tiskilwa, IL, washed out forcing the IAIS to detour across the BNSF between Barstow and Peoria, via Galesburg. I only captured one detour train, even though a total of seven ran this route. Here are some views of the RIBI-09 on the BNSF's Peavine to Galesburg:

A westbound BNSF freight derailed on the diamond with the Iowa Interstate at Colona, IL on November 21, 2003. Once the track was cleared and before a switch was installed, several IAIS trains used BNSF rails between Barstow and Peoria, via Galesburg, while 2 trains ran between Barstow and Joliet, via Galesburg and the ex-ATSF mainline. Once the switch was installed, the long-haul detours stopped. For approximately 8 months, the IAIS detoured through Barstow on BNSF rails between Colona and East Moline. Two switches have been installed at Colona for the IAIS. The diamond is now history. Here are several views of the IAIS on the BNSF between East Moline and Colona:
