On July 6th a BNSF train struck a stalled semi-truck and derailed outside of Emporia, Ks next to the historic Merrick Signal Tower.  The four locomotives and 24 of the 108 cars derailed.  The signal bridge was destroyed and a new one is being put together at this time. The photo is from the Emporia Gazette(newspaper) photographer(a different photographer than in "Trains").

A BNSF coal train derailed at Parkville, MODuring April 1999 a loaded BNSF coal train derailed at Parkville, MO spilling tons of coal down main street and the coal cars smashed a few buildings down. The accident was caused by a hot roller bearing that wore into. The scanned photo is from the Kansas City Star newspaper.
