Click here to see an ad for The Conrail Juniata Locomotive Shops from 1991. This famous railroad landmark is on the north edge of Altoona Penna., has over 1,000 employees and an estimated $49 million annual payroll.

The history of this complex dates back to 1890 when The Pennsylvania Railroad Machine Shops Complex was expanded to build shop areas for locomotive repair and building in a section of Altoona known as Juniata. A modernization program completed in 1983 brought the shops up to modern standards for locomotive maintenance and overhaul work.

The future of The Juniata Locomotive Shops is uncertain,
under The Norfolk Southern Railroad.
