Re 4/4II prototype engine for testing of the Swiss-Express type coupler. Similar to the Swiss-Express engines, but never wore the grey-orange livery, and never circulated with the cars type VUIII.

Re 4/4
III, former SOB
Re 4/4III 41 (until 1996).

Prototype initially intended for the SBB (NR envisaged: Re 4/4II 11153), but delivered to the SOB
(Re 4/4III 41), and resold to the SBB in 1996.

Short cab, 1 single-arm pantograph. Identical to 11101-11154, but with gear ratio for V max 125 km/h instead of 140 km/h.

11351-11370

Re 4/4III, long cab, 2 single-arm pantographs. Identical to 11156 - 11349, but with gear ratio for V max 125 km/h instead of 140 km/h.


11351-11353
 : ex SOB Re 4/4III 42-44 (until 1996).

11371-11397

Re 4/4II, long cab, 2 single-arm pantographs (Identical to 11156 - 11349). Are being alterated to be able to run in Germany, and renumbered as Re 421

At term, all Re 4/4II will be renumbered as Re 420.

Re 420.11110:

One of the 6 engines 11107-11154 sold to the BLS.

Only Re 4/4II 11110 has been repainted in BLS livery before the official takeover the 12.12.2004, and carried the provisory immatriculation Re 420.11110. After the takeover, it got the definitive number BLS Re 420.501-9

Re 421.371-397

Re 4/4II 11371-11397 of the SBB Cargo
Division, fitted to be able to run in Germany :
- 1
broad pallet pantograph for DB / ÖBB
- German train safety system LZB
- Reduction of the width by removing of alteration of the handrails on the sides and the cabs.

Fitted with a speed sensor for low speeds, used for shunting of passenger trains in Basel SBB (No more line circulations)

11113 and 11133

Former Swiss-Express
- engines, with SBB-logo (instead of the swiss arms) on the front sides.

(11113 retired after collision)
11155 + 11166

Were equipped by way of tests with an automatic coupler (same model as the EWIII "Swiss-Express" cars) and thus circulated in 1979. rebuilt to the normal type.


11156 - 11189 (without 11172 and 11181)

Locomotives fitted with radio-control equipment.

Fitted with the european train control system ETCS level 1.


11181 « Bourret », then « Zugkraft Aargau »

Re 4/4II 11181 carried between 1983 and 1985 " psychedelic” livery due to the artist Daniel Bourret, of Wettingen.

 
This same engine was repainted in 1999 in " Zugkraft Aargau" livery (similar with that of Re 460.034-2) at the time of the startup of fast regional trains RX between Baden and Aarau.

11195-11200 (Initially 11196-11201)

Fitted with 2 different types of pantographs
to ensure the Zürich-Bregenz-Lindau trains:
-1 special broad bow pantograph (Gauge DB/ÖBB).

-1 standard single-arm BBC pantograph
 
Initially the 11196-11201 were equipped, but after the accident of the 11201 in Wolfurt in 1988, 11195 was equipped with a broad pantograph and the 11201 refitted with the normal type.


11239 « Porrentruy »

The Ae 6/6s 11401 - 11425 carries the arms of the 25 Swiss cantons and half-cantons. At the time of the creation of the canton of Jura in 1976, it appeared normal that the new canton also has " its " Ae 6/6.

 
For that, Ae 6/6 11483 " Porrentruy " got the arms of the new canton of Jura, and the arms of Porrentruy were mounted on the Re 4/4II 11239, which since is the one and single Re 4/4II of the SBB carrying arms.

11265-11298

Fitted with the cab-signal system FSS (= ETCS Level 2) for the tests on the line Zofingen - Sempach. Marked of a white triangle on the doors of the driving cabs.

SOB Re 4/4III 41
Prototype initially intended for the SBB (Nr envisaged: Re 4/4II 11153), but delivered to the SOB as Re 4/4III 41, and resold to the SBB in 1996.
Short cab
(14900mm), 1 BBC single-arm pantograph. Identical to 11101-11154, but with gear ratio for V max 125 km/h instead of 140 km/h.

1996 (in change with the 4 Re 4/4IV 10101-10104)

Re 4/4III, long cab, 2 single-arm pantographs. Identical to

The EBT
Re 4/4III 111-113 have been renumbered as Re 436.111-113 as they got the Colani livery, the VHB 141 and SMB 181 at the merger of EBT, SMB and VHB to RM.

MThB Re 4/4II 21
Re 4/4III, long cab, 2 single-arm pantographs. Identical to 11156-11349. Until the takeover of the 6 Re 4/4IIs sold by SBB to BLS (BLS Re 420.501-505), it was the only one Re 4/4II owned by a private railway (All other privates were Re 4/4IIIs)

After the concourse of the MThB in 2002, it has been taken over by SBB as Re 4/4II 11172.

(Re-use of the number of the first
Re 4/4II 11172, scrapped in 1972 after the mishap in Vaumarcus. See the page over the retired Re 4/4IIs)

BLS Re 420.501-512

The 12 Re 4/4IIs 11102-11107, 11110, 11117, 11119, 11123, 11137 and 11142 have been sold to the BLS for use on the push-pull trains EWIII (also sold by SBB) on the lines Bern-Neuchâtel and Bern-Luzern.

Pantographs:
Re 420.502-7, 508-4, 510-0 and 511-8: 1 parallelogram pantograph
- All others: 1 BBC single-arm pantograph
