The photographs below were taken from the wasteland on the site of Monktonhall Colliery from where the depot and yard can be observed. Click on the photos for a larger view. All photographs taken on 3rd September 1999 by Matt Kitchin.

Above: Looking North-East the north
end of the depot and the driver signing on point (the buildings in the centre of
the photo) can be seen together with 56072 stabled in the depot headshunt.

Above: Facing East the depot can be
seen with the coal yard in the background. 09205 is stabled on shed with a RES
47 behind. The coal yard is behind the depot.

Above: Facing South-East the yard
can be seen with the control tower on the left and the coal yard behind.
The wooded area between the vantage point and Millerhill depot and yard is the remains of Millerhill Down yard which has been lifted and left to nature. This land is still railway property and within the boundary of the yard therefore it is trespassing to proceed into this area and not advisable!
