Young of McKeesport/southern Allegheny County

There were at least three men named William Fleming Young, all directly related (father-son-grandson), with time in Saltsburg and McKeesport. The eldest William married a Mary Elder, but finds himself disappeared before the 1850 census. Mary does show up in Mifflin Township and McKeesport in 1850 and 1860. She died in 1868, and was buried in McKeepsort-Versailles Cemetery on November 29, 1868.

One of the many stories told by my grandfather was one of a relation to the same Buchanans that the 15th President, James Buchanan, was descended from. Discovery of the full names of the 1838 William's parents, and the subsequent link up with fellow researcher Rod Carnahan of Texas led to the name of one of the 1838 William's sisters being Margaret Buchanan Young.

First Generation

1. William Fleming Young was born in Ireland. He married Mary Elder (born between June 2 1796 and June 1 1797), and was dead prior to 1850.

Second Generation

3. Margaret Buchanan Young (1) was born in 1825. She married a Thomas B. Carnahan in 1846, and died in McKeesport on 4 January 1894, and was buried in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.

4. Mary J. Young (1) was born in 1830. She married a Thomas McClure by 1853, and they show up immediately above her mother in the 1860 census in McKeesport.

6. William Fleming Young (1) (the 2nd though he did not go by any suffix) was born in Saltsburg, PA on March 31, 1838. He was the son of William Fleming Young and Mary Elder. His married Margaret Eloma Taylor on August 29, 1864. He died in McKeesport, PA on September 14, 1908 and was buried in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery in lot L 10.

A photo, circa 1899-1900, of the five adult children, their spouses, and their children (William & Margaret's grandchildren), exists, and will be uploaded in the near future. It is unclear why William and Margaret are not in the photo, as it is taken before their death.

Third Generation

16. James Hartley Young (6)(1) was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on July 1865. He married Ella Megogney on 1885-86. He died in McKeesport, PA on December 6, 1932, and was buried in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport PA. She was born August 1865, and died in February 4, 1935 in McKeesport. She is also buried at McKeesport and Versailles.

17. Fredericka Young, Jr (6)(1) was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on Oct 1866. She married Thomas F. Kincaid in 1888-1889. He was born January 1863 in PA, with parents born in Ireland.

18. Samuel Young (6)(1) was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on August , 1868. He married Rosella in 1896-97

Samuel and Rosella lived with his parents in 1900 on 515 Water Street, McKeesport, and with his mother at same address in 1910. They were at 705 Carson Street (5th Ward McKeesport) in 1920, and again in 1930, although her sister, Mary Brisbin, was head of household in 1930.

19. William Fleming Young, Jr (6)(1) (despite being the third) was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on July 12, 1871. He married Hannah Armenta Verner on December 29, 1892. He died in McKeesport, PA on October 14, 1920, and was buried in Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg, Allegheny County, Pa. She died in August 15, 1947 in McKeesport.

20. John R. Young (6)(1) was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on 1877 (1900 suggests April 1875). He married Elizabeth Bell on 1897. She was born April 1875.

They resided at 815 Franklin Street, 8th Ward McKeesport, in 1920. They appear to be with her father, John Bell, in 1900 at 522 White Street, 6th Ward McKeesport.

Fourth Generation

26. Larelda May Young (19)(6)(1) was born in McKeesport on March 22, 1894 . She married Harold Irvin McKeever, Sr. on September 30, 1919. She died in McKeesport on March 30, 1972.
