Below is Emigrant Gap where the railroad parallels Interstate 80.
CalTrans is improving the highway with new concrete surface. This
area must take a beating during fierce Sierra Nevada winters.
Lake Spaulding is visible through the trees.
The second main track has been removed and ties are in place for
replacement. This is in the Yuba Pass area.
Some spots were graded for replacement track. Maybe panel track
is to be used in tunnels.
Below right, this track has steel ties and is likely being removed.
