After CP East Redondo the train
passed Amtrak Redondo Roundhouse. This is the location where
Santa Fe 3751 is stored. It plans to be in San Bernardino on June
12 and June 13 2004 as part of the rededication of the old Santa Fe
depot. The Operation Lifesaver train crossed the Los Angeles
River and up to a red signal where it remained for several minutes.
The skyline of downtown Los Angeles
grew larger as the train headed up the river. Across could be
seen the Amtrak coach yard shed. Next was an interesting sight of
a BNSF Warbonnet freight locomotive and Amtrak Surfliner locomotive
lashed up and waiting for Monday's officer-on-train assignment in
Riverside.
More trespassers were walking along
the right-of-way. The train needed to be wyed and Los Angeles
Union Station was the place for this to happen. We crossed the
river again and passed by Mission Tower.
Below right shows the Metropolitan Water District building on the left
and the Gold Line bridge below the center signal mast.
At
LAUPT,
a southbound Amtrak Surfliner train was spotted leaving with Cyrus K.
Holiday private passenger car in tow. The special Operation
Lifesaver
train ended the day back at Metrolink Central Maintenance
Facility.
The next day, the O.L. train received more equipment to become
Operation Lifesaver Officer-on-a-train bound for downtown Riverside
California.
