Above left, BNSF is preparing to erect another signal bridge.  On the right, a crew member waits next to his power.  Below left, the east end of Hobart Yard.  Below right is a Union Pacific track which crosses the BNSF.

Below, two views from the flyover of the freight tracks below.  The channel is the Los Angeles River.

Below left, is Amtrak F59PHI number 458.  The fiberglass nose is removed.  I believe this is the unit that went through the strawberry trailer in Oxnard earlier the same week.

Below left, another Amtrak Genesis locomotive at the fueling rack.  Below right are storage tracks for the local freight railroads. At Amtrak's 8th Street yard, the train was stopped where the Union Pacific and Metrolink locomotives were cut off the train and run separately back to Metrolink's CMF.  The reasons for this were simple;  Silver Lariat was going to be on Surfliner train 562 the next day and the BNSF and Amtrak locomotives could be returned to their respective yards for their next missions.

Several small comical blunders happened next.  First, several personnel were left on the Silver Lariat car, and the power was dispatched into Union Station.  Nothing could be done about the personnel except pick them up later by car.  The engineer asked dispatch to allow him to back out of Union Station to San Diego Junction and then resume forward movement to CMF. After sitting on track 8 for about five minutes, we did back up and then forward to CMF.

The Union Pacific representative aboard commented on the train across the river maintaining this was a Roseville to Dolores manifest train.  Note another Norfolk Southern locomotive in the consist.

Below left, the light power on the West Bank of the Los Angeles River about to pass under the MTA Gold Line.  Below right, the power returned to Metrolink CMF and Metrolink "Operation Lifesaver" caboose in the backround, right center.
