Further on up the road...

The crew kept pointing out troublesome crossings past the area that Operation Lifesaver has just worked.  One crossing even has a crossing gate for pedestrians.  Engineer Angel Velazquez said that at some crossings pedestrians illegally cross the tracks while warning devices are activated.  He said they “cross the tracks like we don’t even exist.”  None did in front of us and we had a nice return to Los Angles until the plan fell apart.

This train came onto the mainline from the yard pictured on the right.

We crossed four street intersections in rapid succession on our way by the Metrolink Montebello Station.  With 260,000 highway-rail grade crossings on the 175,000 miles of railroad track in the United States, there is a collision between a vehicle or pedestrian once every 2 hours!
