Chapter Web site Southern California Chapter Railway and Locomotive Historical Society
With all the excitement about the Internet these days, we have received a number of inquiries about the existence of a WEB site for the Southern California Chapter of R&LHS. Our neighbors to the North, the Pacific Coast Chapter, have an excellent site, as do many other railroad history organizations and museums. Many of the inquiries come from rail fans and tourists who would like to visit our equipment collection in Pomona, or learn more about our Chapter and it's activities. A WEB site is an excellent way to publicize our Chapter and encourage more interest in rail history. It takes time, effort, and a good bit of talent to develop a WEB site. Up until recently, we did not have any members willing to take on the job. However, we are very fortunate to have a new member, Angela Wilczynski, who developed this WEB site for our Chapter. The WEB site will start out with basics, answering some of the most frequently asked questions we get from visitors as well as people who would like to visit, but don't know how to get in to see our collection at the Fairplex in Pomona. The content of our brochure describing the collection will be included, along with pictures. As time permits, we would like to include information about our Chapter's history, additional information about our collection, news about what's happening in our Chapter, and articles that may be of interest to anyone “hitting” our site. Contributions from any Chapter members would be most welcome. You do not have to be a computer literate to help with this project. If you have information, or a story, or pictures that you think might be useful, please contact Clyde Stoneman, the Observation Platform Editor, and pass the information to him for forwarding to Angela. We are particularly interested in information about our Chapter's early history. We also get frequent questions from people who want to know how our equipment “got there” to Pomona, and we would like to answer them. Most of us know the general answer to that one by rail! But rail fans are a detail oriented bunch, and in addition to wanting to know how many rivets hold the Big Boy together, they are interested in knowing every yard of track our equipment traveled on. Any help from those members who remember this type of information would be most appreciated 5/22/99 - web site uploaded to trainweb.com (thank you Steve Grande for hosting our site)
