ROC News 2005 January - June
- January 01, 2005:
Five motorcars ran on the RS&N Saturday, New Years' Day:
- A4 - Tim Parnell and several guests
- A3 - Bob Youngblood
- S2 - Earl Barber
- M19 - Hollis Batchelor
- M19 - Phil Gandy
The weather was warm and sunny; all equipment performed flawlessly.
Several trees and limbs were down after the recent icing and windy conditions.
Tim did some clearing Friday, while most everyone helped saw and move the
remaining six or so trees on Saturday. A very good time was had by all.
A CSX northbound train passed through Parkton a few minutes after our arrival.
Thanks to Phil Gandy for this report.

- May 28, 2005:
On Saturday,May 28th, ROC had its first run of the season.
The weather was warm then turned cool due to rain trying to come in on us.
Three cars rode:
- M19 - Hollis Batchelor
- M19 - Carey Boney
- MT14 - Clyde Davis
Clyde Davis from Inman, SC was mentored by Carey.
This is a NARCOA requirment now.
Clyde brought two friends, Billy Inman and Bruce Chennery, along on the ride.
Hollis had his son Stephen with him.
Carey led the caravan, with Clyde's car with in tow.
The group made it up to Parkton for lunch only to find that V's restaurant now only caters meals.
They ate around the corner at the convenient store instead.
Hollis and son even joined in, and
we spent a lot of time there getting to know each other.
Back in Red Springs, Hollis set off, and Clyde, Carey and the others made another trip north.
This totaled about 50 miles for the day.
Carey taught Bruce how to operate his car on one of the return trips. Bruce seemed to love it so much that
it would not surprise us to see Bruce with a car of his own in the future.
Thanks to Carey Boney for this report.
- June 18, 2005:
Three motorcars and six participants gathered at Red Springs Saturday for a nice day of motorcar riding. Included were:
- Carey Boney, M19, and Florida guest Addison Austin.
- Phil Gandy, M9, and Huntersville, NC guests Phillip and Maria Welch
- Bob Youngblood, A3
The morning was overcast and pleasantly cool, warming up some as the clouds gave way to sunshine.
Carey made one 'lap' to Parkton, Phil made two (one with each guest),
and Bob was still making laps (and trimming branches) when others went home.
Hollis came by for a brief visit on his way to the hospital. His older son was taking him for an evaluation
on progress treating his pneumonia. It was goot to see him, but he does not look well at all.
We all wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Two CSX freight trains, one northbound and one southbound, passed through Parkton at lunchtime.
Thanks to Phil Gandy for this report.
